Eddie Tamir |
Chalk it up to changing cinema tastes and changing demographics, says Eddie Tamir, the owner of the Classic Cinemas in Elsternwick, who has bought and renovated the Belgrave Cameo. It reopens today as a mainstream and art-house cinema.
Mr Tamir bought the Cameo with its funky 1970s orange and mission brown revamp, is seeking a niche market, bypassing the blockbuster young adult audience. Then He toke his third cinema project after opening the single-screen Classic in Elsternwick in 1997, followed by refurbishing the Cameo in Belgrave in 2004. He is in the midst of leading a careful restoration before re-opening it to the public in 2012 for the Hawthorn’s Glenferrie Cinema.
To open or take a cinema need a lot of courage as film industry is very depressed now in some small cinemas. Mr Tamir made a huge contribution for the Australia film industry which need to be respected.
Hope He can success in his cinemas projects!!
